Helen Bascom grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Her creativity was nurtured from an early age by the rich heritage of art and music of Appalachia. Ms. Bascom was exposed to painting, music, woodworking, quilt making, and acting from an early age. She has always been interested in politics and all things political.
Ms. Bascom studied art under Tom Whittaker and Russell May, two great Appalachian Artists. The primitive art of Tim Sizemore greatly influenced her early work, and his philosophy of life influences her today.
